The Optimist Club of Bardstown was founded in 1954 and currently has 41 members from all walks of life within Nelson County. All of our projects center on helping the youth of Nelson County grow and reach their potential by: offering college scholarship funds through our Oratorical and Essay contests; by support of youth athletics such as Little League Baseball and Football, and sponsoring the Optimist Tri-Star Basketball Contest; by assisting Community Action’s Angel Tree Program by collecting toys and clothing through the annual Optimist Toy Drive; by supporting academic activities as the Ground Hog Day Chess Tournament; by recognizing deserving youth through our Youth Appreciation Program; and honoring our local adult leaders who volunteer to help youth through our annual Frank Schultz Service to Youth Award.
Membership is open to anyone with a desire to “Bring Out the Best in Kids”. Dues are currently $25 per quarter, with a one-time membership fee of $30. For those who wish to be a part of supporting our youth but are unable to attend regular meetings, we offer “Friend of Optimist” memberships, $100 per year. For more information, please contact any Optimist member or attend any of our club meetings or activities; all are open to the public and visitors are always welcome.
